We are seeking a trustworthy and compassionate individual to join as a Dog Handler. This is a wonderful opportunity for anyone with a genuine love for dogs and experience in canine care, wishing to work in a supportive, discreet home environment.
Key Responsibilities for Dog Handler
- Provide daily hands-on care, exercise, and enrichment to a small group of well-loved dogs, ensuring their safety, wellbeing, and comfort at all times.
- Supervise dogs both inside the house and in secure garden areas, maintaining a calm and positive atmosphere.
- Assist with feeding routines, administering medication if required, and monitoring dietary needs or behavioural changes.
- Carry out regular grooming, including brushing, bathing, and basic nail or ear care.
- Coordinate and escort dogs to veterinary appointments, groomers, or training sessions as needed.
- Keep all canine areas clean and hygienic, managing waste and ensuring all supplies, toys and equipment are well-organised.
- Follow bespoke care plans and routines outlined by the household, adapting responsively to each dog’s unique needs.
- Develop a positive rapport with the dogs, using patience, positive reinforcement, and effective behaviour management techniques.
- Communicate regularly with the household owner and other staff, updating on any health or wellbeing concerns and contributing to overall household harmony.
- Support with additional tasks for the dogs’ welfare, such as purchasing supplies or preparing for family travel, as required.
Skills and Experience Required for Dog Handling and Animal Care
- Previous experience as a dog handler, dog walker, kennel assistant, or in a similar animal care role is strongly preferred.
- Genuine passion for animal welfare and confidence in managing different dog breeds, temperaments, and sizes safely.
- Ability to recognise and respond appropriately to signs of illness or distress in dogs.
- Excellent organisational skills, with a detail-oriented and proactive approach to routines, cleanliness, and record-keeping.
- Reliable, discreet, and professional attitude, able to maintain privacy and high standards at all times.
- Good communication skills, with the ability to work harmoniously alongside household members and other staff.
- Flexibility to accommodate changing schedules, occasional evenings or weekends, and support during family travel if needed.
- Clean driving licence essential; ability to transport dogs safely.
- Relevant qualifications in animal care, first aid, or dog behaviour are advantageous but not required.
