Job Summary
We are seeking a dependable and experienced Laundry In Charge to manage laundry operations within a private household or luxury residence. The successful candidate will oversee all aspects of garment and linen care, ensuring high standards of cleanliness, presentation and fabric care. This role requires strong organisation, attention to detail, and the ability to supervise laundry processes and maintain equipment to deliver consistently excellent results.
Key Responsibilities
Laundry Operations
Manage the day-to-day laundry process including sorting, washing, drying, ironing, steaming, folding and organising clothing, household linen and soft furnishings to the household’s standards.
Identify fabric types and apply appropriate cleaning methods, detergents and temperature settings to protect garments and extend their lifespan.
Attend to delicate and specialist items (silk, cashmere, lace, embroidered pieces) using hand-wash or specialist care as required.
Perform stain removal, mending, minor repairs and liaise with professional dry-cleaners or tailors for specialist services when necessary.
Maintain records of laundry schedules, care instructions, and item inventories; ensure organised storage and rotation of linens and uniformss
Operate and maintain laundry machines, irons, steamers and other equipment; report faults and coordinate repairs with external technicians.
Ensure machines are cleaned and descaled as per manufacturer guidance and follow safe operating procedures for all equipment.
Manage supplies of detergents, softeners, stain removers and related consumables; inform the employer of required stock and assist with ordering when requested.
Supervision & Coordination
Supervise and provide guidance to any laundry assistants or junior housekeeping staff to ensure consistent standards and efficient workflow.
Coordinate with other household staff (housekeepers, chefs, butlers) to prioritise laundry requirements for events, guests and daily routines.
Plan laundry schedules to meet household needs, including rush requirements for events or last-minute requests.
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum 2 years’ experience in a professional laundry, housekeeping or similar domestic role with responsibility for linen and garment care.
Knowledge of fabric care, stain removal techniques and experience with commercial or domestic laundry equipment.
Basic mending and garment care skills; experience liaising with dry-cleaners and repair services is desirable.
