Job Purpose
The Warehouse Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily warehouse operations to ensure safe, efficient and accurate receipt, storage and dispatch of goods. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the role leads a small team, implements operational procedures, maintains stock accuracy and supports continuous improvement activities to meet service, quality and productivity targets.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & People Management
Allocate daily tasks, monitor workloads and ensure adequate cover for peak periods, absences and changeovers.
Conduct team briefings, performance reviews and support training to ensure competency and compliance with procedures.
Operational Management
Oversee inbound and outbound processes including goods receipt, putaway, picking, packing and dispatch to meet SLA and accuracy targets.
Coordinate scheduling of deliveries and collections, liaising with carriers and stakeholders to ensure punctual handling.
Maintain clear workspace standards and ensure equipment (e.g. forklifts, pallet trucks) is used safely and correctly.
Inventory Control & Record Keeping
Monitor stock levels and perform regular cycle counts and stock reconciliations to maintain inventory accuracy.
Ensure timely and accurate recording of movements in the warehouse management system and escalate discrepancies.
Manage returns, damaged goods and quarantine processes in line with company procedures.
Health, Safety & Compliance
Promote a culture of safety by ensuring adherence to health and safety regulations, safe manual handling and PPE requirements.
Carry out routine safety checks, report hazards and support incident investigations and corrective actions.
Ensure compliance with licensing, regulatory and company policies relevant to warehouse operations.
Continuous Improvement & Reporting
Identify process improvements to increase productivity, reduce waste and improve service levels; support implementation of changes.
Prepare and maintain operational records, KPIs and routine reports on performance, stock accuracy and resource utilisation.
Support projects such as layout changes, system upgrades and seasonal planning activities.
Qualifications and Experience
Previous experience in a supervisory or team-lead role within a warehouse, distribution centre or logistics environment.
Practical knowledge of warehouse processes including picking, packing, goods receipt and stock control.
Experience using warehouse management systems (WMS) and basic IT skills (e.g. MS Excel).
Relevant health and safety or manual handling qualifications desirable; forklift licence preferred.
Strong organisational, communication and people management skills with a practical, solutions-focused approach.
