Job Summary
The successful candidate will provide attentive, safe and nurturing care for children in a private household, supporting their daily routines, development and wellbeing. The role requires a fluent French speaker who can communicate confidently with children and family members in French and English, create engaging learning opportunities and maintain a warm, professional and secure environment.
Key Responsibilities
Childcare and Daily Routines
· Provide attentive, age-appropriate care for children throughout the day and during agreed working hours.
· Support daily routines, including waking, dressing, washing, meals, naps, bedtime and personal care where required.
· Prepare healthy meals and snacks in accordance with family preferences, dietary requirements and allergy information.
· Supervise children indoors and outdoors, ensuring their safety, comfort and wellbeing at all times.
· Organise age-appropriate games, creative activities, reading, music, outings and educational experiences.
· Support school, nursery, activity and appointment routines, including collecting and accompanying children when required.
French Language and Early Learning
· Communicate with the children in French on a consistent basis, supporting natural language development and confidence.
· Use French through conversation, stories, songs, play and everyday routines in an engaging and age-appropriate way.
· Encourage children’s learning, curiosity, independence and social development through structured and informal activities.
· Introduce French culture, traditions, books, music and activities where appropriate and welcomed by the family.
· Share observations about children’s progress, interests, routines and language development with parents or guardians.
Health, Safety and Child Protection
· Maintain a safe, clean and child-friendly environment in the home, garden and during outings.
· Follow family procedures relating to child safety, safeguarding, supervision, visitors and household security.
· Administer medication only where authorised and in accordance with clear instructions and applicable requirements.
· Respond appropriately to illness, accidents, emergencies and changes in a child’s behaviour or wellbeing.
· Maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding the family, household, children and personal information.
· Report concerns, incidents, hazards or safeguarding matters promptly to the parents or guardians.
Household and Child-Related Duties
· Keep children’s bedrooms, play areas, equipment and belongings clean, organised and ready for use.
· Manage children’s laundry, packing, school bags, clothing, toys and activity materials where required.
· Maintain accurate information about schedules, meals, activities, sleep, medication and other relevant care details.
· Support travel, holidays, events and occasional evening or overnight care by prior arrangement.
· Work cooperatively with parents, guardians, teachers, tutors, household staff and other professionals.
Qualifications and Experience
· Fluent French language skills, with the ability to communicate naturally and confidently with children.
· Previous professional nanny, childcare, nursery, teaching assistant or relevant family-care experience.
· Knowledge of child development, positive behaviour support and age-appropriate activities.
· Current paediatric first aid certification, or willingness to obtain it where required.
· Safeguarding and child protection knowledge is desirable.
· A valid driving licence and confidence driving children may be required.
· Relevant childcare, early years, education or first aid qualifications are desirable but not essential.
